2016 Poe Man's Challenge in Kansas City
About the Poe Man's Challenge
The Poe Man's Challenge was a “Shark Tank-like” competition on Tuesday, December 13th, 2016. Eight teams of 3-4 students each met with a different Kansas City startup, learned about the company and practiced pitching their company. Four hours later, the students pitched the startup Shark Tank-style in front of a panel of judges including KC Chiefs Dontari Poe, a few of his teammates and other tech luminaries. This was an event that bridged tech, youth, and Kansas City Sports.

"After wining the competition, I realized the kids I coached had the magic touch I have been missing this last year. They made it simple and held a conversation so that the crowd knew clearly what the product was and how it solved problems."
-- Jen Taylor, CEO of The Selling Company
"Confidence and humility are the keys to success. I was proud to see this group of KC youth prove that they have those tools in their belt and are eager to use them."
-- Hayley Besheer, CEO of MADI Apparel
"The Poe Man's Challenge is a unique event that needs to be replicated throughout the country."

"What a great opportunity for high school students to learn about entrepreneurship, practice public speaking, and meet their role models. It was great to see the community involved, excited, and networking with those they may not otherwise have had the opportunity to meet. "
-- Adrienne B. Haynes, SEED Law, LLC
"The platform for empowerment by Poe Man's Challenge gave the students the ability to discover their inherent, internal power which clearly showed with many of them."
-- Shanell Petersen, CEO of Nella Yoga
